Ever wonder if there was a whole MONTH dedicated to celebrating healthier eating (of course you have, who hasn’t)? Well guess what? MARCH is that month!
Every year, The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics creates a campaign to help educate the public on healthier eating and lifestyle habits. This year’s theme, “Put Your Best Fork Forward”, reminds us that each bite can make a difference in our overall health.
And that even small changes, one bite at a time, can mean big rewards in our weight and health. Here are some of the major take-home messages to help you get the most out of National Nutrition Month:
Variety is key: Pick a wide variety of tasty, nutritious foods. In other words, try and avoid eating the same five foods over and over again, especially when it comes to your fruits and vegetables. For some inspiration on healthy meal ideas, check out our new recipe database, or speak with your Nutrition Specialist.
Get Cooking: Experiment with preparing some healthy foods at home. No experience necessary! If you rarely (or never) cook meals at home, make a point to try it out this month. Even 1-2 meals a week can help get you more comfortable with food preparation, and give your diet a healthy boost.
Pay attention to portions: Choosing the right foods, i.e. those you see on your specific meal plan, is only half the battle. It’s also important to make sure that the amount we eat is in line with healthy recommendations as well. Using a food diary, such as that on the platform, can really help with keeping an eye on how our portion sizes impact our diet.
Get moving: Stay active most days of the week with some form of exercise that you enjoy! For some inspiration, take a peek through our exercise videos.
Seek out the experts: For help with weight loss and health improvement, it’s important to get support from those with the right training and experience. Luckily, our team of Nutrition Specialists here at VHP fit the bill!
For extra credit, log onto the platform on March 8th for National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day, and send a shout out to our Nutrition Specialists. Happy eating!
