We all know the holidays can be a tough time to stick to your exercise regimen. The good news is that there is research showing you can actually burn calories while doing your holiday shopping. Below are 4 tips to help you burn calories while shopping:
Walk it out
If you do not have a fitbit, make sure to download a steps tracker app before you head out to your favorite stores this holiday season. It will be encouraging after a long day spending your hard earned money to look at your fitbit or steps tracker and see how many calories you burned just by walking. If you are driving to the mall, make sure to park in the back of the lot so you have to walk extra to get into the building. Also make sure to steer away from the escalator and take the stairs.
Work those abs in line
Long lines are no longer the worst, when you can spend that time building a stable core. If you find yourself waiting around in line for a long time, try pulling your belly button towards your back and holding for 10 seconds then releasing then repeat as much as you can. This simple exercise routine can help to strengthen your core and your glutes.
Work on your biceps by lifting your shopping bags
While you are walking around, or waiting in line try doing some bicep curls with your shopping bags. For the heavier bags, try shooting for 15 reps and for the lighter bags, try 20 reps. Do this 3 times for each the right and the left side. Also while you are walking with your arms straight down towards your sides you can do shoulder shrugs with your bags as well.
Try on clothes
The more clothes you try on, the better. All the twisting and turning and climbing in and out of outfits helps to burn calories.
At the end of a long day of retail therapy you can rest well, knowing you got a lot accomplished including keeping up with your health and wellness.
