Even the most interesting workout routine can get a little stale. Spring is a great time to clean out the old and start fresh – and your exercise program is no exception! Here are 5 ways to freshen up your fitness routine this spring.

Grab Some New Gear

One of the easiest ways to put some “spring” in your step (no pun intended) is to purchase new gear. A pristine pair of sneakers or some brightly-colored leggings can be enough to get you moving. If new clothes aren’t your thing, try picking up a new fitness toy, such as a wearable activity tracker, a funky water bottle, or some resistance bands. New gear can be an awesome motivator!

Spring Clean Your Workout Space

Speaking of spring cleaning, tidying up your workout space can breathe new life into your routine. Disinfect and organize your equipment, and check to make sure everything is in working order. If you want to go the extra mile, customize your space with new gym flooring, lighting, or hang inspiring pictures on your walls. With a bit of creativity, your home workout space can be a special retreat!

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Spring is the ideal season to step out of your comfort zone and try something new! Register for one of VHP’s many live classes or check out our media library to add some variety to your routine. You can also step out of your comfort zone by mixing up your existing workout routine.  For example, if you usually jog for 30 minutes, sprinkle in a few high-intensity sprints or add some resistance training to your regimen. A little change can bring huge results!

Take Your Workout Outside

Enjoy the gorgeous spring weather by taking your workout outdoors! Hit the pavement for a bike ride, play some frisbee, or take a hike at a nearby nature reserve. Research shows that exercising in a natural green environment can help relieve stress and fatigue while increasing endurance. Even a simple stroll around the neighborhood can help you burn some calories, increase your motivation, and even boost your mood!

Pursue Your Passions

It’s never too late to try something new! Whether you’ve always wanted to take karate lessons or learn to roller blade, spring is the perfect time to pursue your passions. You can also reignite an old passion by joining an adult sports league, such as a softball or tennis league. You’ll get active and make new friends in the process!
